Living with Dementia program - 3 week program starting November 13 - Bentley

Date:
Tuesday, 13 November 2018 - 9:30am
Address:
Bentley (City of Cannington)

If you are living with early stage dementia or are a family carer for someone with dementia, you are welcome to join our early intervention program.

You will get information and support through sharing your experiences with a small group of others in a similar situation. Read the brochure for more information.

What is the purpose of the program?

Research shows this type of program can reduce the sense of isolation, distress and depression and increase the self esteem of people with or caring for someone with dementia, increase knowledge of local services and gain positive perceptions of dementia.

"It has been good meeting others, you feel less alone"

- from a person with dementia

What happens at the sessions?

At each session two groups meet concurrently, one for people with dementia, and one for their family members. Programs generally consist of seven sessions of two hours run on a weekly basis. Groups are limited to ten participants to give you the opportunity to:

  • Tell your story of dementia
  • Reflect on the impact of the diagnosis
  • Develop an understanding of the importance of self-care
  • Enhance your skills for communicating with others
  • Learn techniques for problem solving
  • Extend your knowledge about legal and financial issues

More information is available on the program brochure.

Who can attend?

Participants must have a diagnosis of dementia or be accompanying a person with a diagnosis of dementia.

You do NOT need to be part of the local council area to attend the programs.
